Jack: Upon perusing this site, I am disappointed that I don't recognize any of the doctors with whom I am familiar because of their work with ablation/maze progress with actual patient results.

I was also disappointed in their very cursory, and somewhat outdated description of how the maze procedure is done. Is anyone still doing some of this stuff? They do acknowledge that the cure rate is good and the risk rate (death) should be less than 1%, but overall, their lack of knowledge of what is going on with the maze is sadly lacking.
I wish I had known of this meeting. It would have been a GREAT place for a Maze Alumni meeting (albeit, Naples in the Winter ain't cheap!). We might certainly have made an impression, and perhaps should watch for future meetings to attend.

Their coverage and warnings of the risks of left atrial ablations and pulmonary vein ablations seemed to be pretty accurate, and comparing the risks as described at their site, I would opt for the maze for sure. Of course, I KNOW that the maze worked for me and others. Had I known of the ablation risks, I doubt I would have ever even tried it. I guess I was lucky enough to have an EP who didn't try to do more than he knew he could do with an ablation, and that was to at least help with the flutter. That was a blessing, as was the several weeks of being nearly afib-free following my ablation.

Those of us who have been cured, even "mazers" like you who had it done several years ago, know that we did the right thing and that the procedure is rapidly improving with shorter "pump times", much less bleeding, etc., much of which has taken place in only the last year!
