Edward: I was delighted to see a post from a "newly cured" mazer...and by a new surgeon to our group.
First of all, I will try to set your mind at ease re: the "clicking" of your sternum. (Actually, Rob's post set MY mind at ease with the "2 year" remark.") I just celebrated one year post-maze last week, and I still feel some "movement" or "noise" when I move in certain ways, mostly when I first get out of bed in the morning or when I roll over during the night. I had assumed this was caused because of an "unrelated to the maze" spell of coughing I had for a few weeks, starting about 2 weeks post maze. I coughed so much that I was sure my chest or heart would split open, but I was told by my doctor at the CC that they encourage people to cough (probably NOT like I was)and that I could not hurt myself. Nevertheless, I had a scan done to be certain no wires had come apart in my sternum, and have grown used to the noise when I get up in the morning. I must add that I am 60, and other bones/joints make noise in the AM as well. Now, from Rob, I know that this could go on for as much as another year. It has not stopped me from doing anything, and I think you will find that you can go back to lifting anything after 3 months or so, although you might FEEL as though your incision is going to come apart, it is just because it is scar tissue and is less compliant than before.

I am curious as to whether or not you found this group before or after your maze, and how you arrived at the decision to do this? Did you talk or correspond with other "mazers" or was it just your "research"?

Please continue to post your experience and answer questions from new potential maze patients. Your post today will be helpful to others poised to have ablations, which we all hope will someday be the easiest "cure', but for now, I certainly agree with your interpretation of the current data.

Continued good luck.
