TC: I don't recall (hopefully NOT because of the time I spent on the bypass machine) if you ever posted your age and/or activity level pre-maze. At just over 11 months post maze, I walked 3 miles at just about the same rate I was able to do at 12 days: 3 miles in 31-32 minutes. I was almost 60 at the time of my maze last January.

Considering that I had not done much of any exercise for several years pre-maze, but before that had been a triathlete until age 51, I was amazed at how well I could do at 12 days. I guess a lot of it was my Type A, impatient behavior, wanting to "push the envelope" when my EP said at 10 days "Exercise as much as you feel you can. Just don't lift or drive for 6 weeks." I took him literally, and never had a problem, other than getting "winded". I would have my HR up to about 110-115 within 1/2 mile, and would finish at 115-120.
My last walk, about 10 days ago, was essentially at the same speed, but my heart rate got up to 128. My recovery is quicker now, returning to 75-80 in perhaps 6-7 minutes.

Actually, I was disappointed with this recent hard walk, and decided that I was going to get back to walking daily-HARD! The next day, I stepped backwards onto a low curb, and tore some ligaments and broke a bone in my foot. Now I am soaking it in ice water and taking Vioxx to keep the swelling down. It may be awhile before I get back to any aerobic exercise, which I need and miss doing.

I think that if your legs can sustain you, you could be walking faster and could get your HR up higher, for a longer period, but I recommend that you ask YOUR doctor. He may be more conservative than mine.

I think your resting HR is doing fine, and that you could try jogging if that is something you did before. I have tried it several times, including at 10-12 days, but then it hurt my sternum AND my wind, so I would only go perhaps 75-100 feet at a time back then. I must say tho, that I really don't like running, and like it even less now that I am still overweight. I would much rather bike or swim.
