Dave: I imagine you, as did I, had doubts re: the posted and emailed info and encouragements from various "Maze Alumni". But, as you aptly pointed out: drug therapy for Afib, almost ALWAYS fails at some point, and one is never "better off" having taken these drugs for any length of time.
While we all WISH there was some miracle cure, NOW; there just isn't going to be anything with over 10 years of SOLID positive history like the maze, for, well...at least 10 years!

I am so happy that you and so many others, including myself, have found a new life after so many years of the curse of afib.

Like you, I saw my EP yesterday, except I was 50 weeks post-maze. I take NO meds other than 1/2 asprin every other day, and chlolesterol lowering Zocar (switched from Lipitor for insurance reasons). He wants me to come back in one year, only to see if I have lost weight (like 50lbs,to what I weighed over 40 years ago). Everything else is perfect. Pulse of 72, BP of 120/70. My EP is still enthusiastic about the maze and his parting words were "it's amazing".

It seems impossible to believe how I feel compared to last year at this time. I awaken sometimes and start thinking about how truly fortunate I was to have found this board. That is my ONLY sleep problem now!

Thanks again for introducing us to another obviously successful maze surgeon for others in the Southeast to consider. Dr. Burton and Mission St. Joseph Hospital sound great to me.
