I join Jack in the pleasure of knowing your husband is now in NSR. When you wrote in December wondering if there "was light at the end of the tunnel" because he was in/out of SR 3 weeks after surgery, I was hopeful that you would soon be able to answer your own question affirmatively. It only took 2 more weeks. Five weeks total for NSR sounds good to those who are contemplating the maze, I am sure. I was luckier and have remained in NSR since being released by Dr. McCarthy on 1/24/01.
I know it would be helpful to other participants if you could post on the board the answer to Jack's question re: insurance coverage AND if your husband had the "mini" maze or open chest procedure, since there seems to be some debate as to which is more successful (or at least quicker) in providing NSR.
Also, it would be nice for others to learn from some periodic posts as to how your husband is doing with rehab, regaining former strength and ability to engage in former activities, and if any of the former "triggers" have any effect now. There are a number of readers of this board who are currently considering the maze but want as much info as possible.
I'm with you as far as this board is concerned. The info and encouragement offered from "first hand" maze recipients made a big difference in my decision.
I am so ecstatic about being in NSR, I'm sure I come across as a "shill" for the procedure, but I can't help my enthusiasm for getting a life back.
Three cheers again for Jack Drum for putting this board together.
