Tony,

I had my maze on 8/8/00 at the Cleveland Clinic at 55 years of age after 10 years of battling with a-fib and getting worse by the week. My story is very similar to yours...After a year of thinking about the surgery, but hoping to avoid it by managing the 'problem', I finally hit the wall and knew that I had exhausted all options and wanted my life back. It's a big step, but I am now med-free and have been in NSR since discharge. As someone else on the board noted, I would have this surgery annually if necessary to have the 'ball and chain' out of my life!! I am so greatful to Dr. Cox for developing this procedure, Dr. McCarthy for performing mine successfully and to Jack Drum for taking the initative of setting up this forum, which is so invaluable to all who are suffering.
