: Hallo Angie,
: I am a woman 55 years old from Sweden and I had my MAZE 29/11 2000. I also put in a pacemaker 2 weeks after. It took about 3 months to heal the chestbone and I feel relatively OK. It is exactly 4 months since then and I must say I have felt much better the last two weeks. The time after the op was full of mixed feelings. It started out quite well, but I have had some setbacks. I have been feeling very depressed and I cried a lot in dec. and jan.Life slowly came back in feb. but I think it has taken a long time, though others tell me I am impatient, it takes a long time. Due to weatherconditions here in Sweden, it was too cold to go out so I started my rehab quite late.
: Angie, if there are any question you want to ask, feel free to do so. I think it is easier for you to do so in order to find out what you really want to know. (Pls excuse my bad spelling)

: Best regards

Kicki:
As I was perusing the Maze "Success Stores" I was so glad to come across someone who was about my same age and sex who has undergone this procedure. I was 57 when I had the maze four months ago. I, too, have experienced some set backs, and feelings of frustration at not having my full strength back. I have also had a few episodes of AF and flutter, but nothing like I had before my surgery. The episodes have been brief and controlled with minimal dose of Lopressor at home, not requiring a trip to the ER as before when I had heart rates in the 200s - 220s. I also am hoping to soon get off my meds. I wish you well and would enjoy hearing more from you as your recovery progresses.

Angie - I would certainly encourage you once again to pursue your goal of becoming cured of AF, as I think the maze is the only option that can possibly hope to bring that about.
