Maze success, Thanksgiving, sharing

As an Afib sufferer, I invariably went into Afib during air flights of much more than 1 hour, and 2 years ago, when I went to Paris for Thanksgiving, I was REALLY troubled by Afib.

NOW, being 10 months post-maze, I have just returned from Paris, and I suffered NO Afib! Since I have had no Afib since leaving the Cleveland Clinic on 1/24/01, I felt that this long trip at 39000 feet would be the ultimate test of my maze success. We even had the distinct pleasure of getting to sit on the tarmac for 2 3/4 hours in Atlanta, thanks to the bozo who breached security there and caused the airport to shut down for several hours. Even with our flight then being delayed for 4 hours because of this clown (stress), and taking advantage of the champagne, wine, etc.(alcohol), provided by Delta, I still maintained steady NSR throughout the flight. I had lots of wine in Paris, and now, I KNOW I AM CURED!

When I consider that it was just a year ago that I decided that I had to try the maze to get relief, it is just amazing how my life has changed. I might not have been so bold if not for earlier contributors here who posted and/or wrote to me personally. My heartfelt (no pun intended) thanks to Tom Glass, Russell Boyce, Anders Kingstedt, Kicki Markenberg, Jim Pope, Bob Reiley, Pat McCarthy, Shearin and Paul Johnson, SuLynn Mester (what a great story you just posted), Joe Costa, Karl in South Florida, my fellow simultaneous mazers at the CC, Ed & Mike, others I have surely forgotten, and Jack Drum, whose unselfish mission brought us all together. The support by these folks and others will never be forgotten by me, my wife, and my son.

It is so exciting to continue to see posts by subsequent mazers who have recovered their lives as well and are providing their support to new readers.

One more thanks to Dr. Cox, Dr. McCarthy, and the other talented maze surgeons and open-minded cardiologists who have made us whole again, and a pox on the naysayers in the medical community who refuse to look beyond their blinders (or self-interests), to the detriment of their patients.
