Cardiologists approval or disapproval of Maze

I was off the board for a while but after reading several of the posts, it sounds like for the most part, the cardiologists are still not even telling patients the option of the Maze, and if the patient brings it up, the cardiologists shuns them immediately. It is amazing to me that with the documented results that the Maze surgery has, that the cardiologists will not even tell patients about this option. Why do you think this is? Do you think that the cardiologists are not educated about the Maze or what? I think it is a disgrace the way the cardiologists are ignoring this viable option. At least they could tell the patients about it and let them know there is a treatment out there and then let the patient have some imput in the treatment decisions. It makes me angry. When we brought it up to our cardiologist, he told us that is too invasive of a procedure for "just a little afib." That was like a slap in the face, given that it was totally disabilitating to Randy and had totally changed our lives, (both the disease and the treatments the cardiologists was perscribing.) Randy finally told his cardiologist that if he was 80, he might just tolerate the Afib and the horrible side effects of the drugs used to treat it, but that he was not willing to do that when he had practically his whole life ahead of him if there was a chance of a cure.

I would love to start a campaign to educate both the public and the docs on this procedure. I guess that is what this board is all about but I do wish there was a more aggressive way to take it to them instead of waiting for them to come to the board. Any ideas?????
