My son was scheduled for Maze in May of this year. After exam at CC Dr. McCarthy referred him the the EP lab, Dr. Tchou. It turned out that my son had flutter in the right atrium and they did an ablation. Three weeks later the flutter came back although its source was not in the same location as the one they ablated. In my sons case, he had been on Amiodarone for many months and that drug takes as long as 6 months to wash out of the system. The thinking was that the remaining Amiodarone was masking the newly discovered flutter and made it impossible to locate during the EP mapping. He's still flutter but it's controlled by Tambicor. He's waiting now to hear from Dr. Tchou as to the next step. My guess is that he'll go back for another ablation. All I can tell you is that I have great confidence in Dr. Tchou at CC and no matter which way you go (Maze of Ablation) they will do a workup and recommend to you. I suggest you contact CC and go for the workup. Then when you have the information you can decide. (with their help) Good luck. Bill Hawley
