Ed, I certainly would not consider my procedure a complete success story. As best I can tell, I am the first patient ever that had the Maze only from Dr. Cox and developed complete heart block afterwards. Unless my AV node miraculously recovers I will be pacemaker dependant for the rest of my life. I still cannot play Hockey or Basketball because my atrium does not react properly - I have hope that this will clear up. I can run and lift weights although I cannot run even close to as fast as I did before surgery. The good news is that I don't think that I have had any AF since surgery - although I do have frequent PACs/PVCs that are very annoying. All this said I cannot regret my decision to have the Maze, I made the best decision possible with the information that I had. I was desperate.
