Jim, I certainly had my hectic times after my maze. Although I woke up after surgery in NSR, I reverted to AFib when I got home. I originally was started on Rhythmol but then I developed Tordes de Points (pretty life threatening) so they put me on amiodarone which worked just fine. However, I still couldn't shake the Atrial Flutter. The heart rate with AFlutter is 2 to 1 which means my heart was registering about 160. There was no drug that controlled this, just time and healing. The only thing I noticed is that when I ran a little, my heart beat seemed to even out and be OK. At seven weeks, the AFlutter just disappeared and the AFib was also gone. The scarring had occurred and the surgery worked. I soon went off all drugs and have been off of all drugs since that time. If you know my history, I have pushed my heart pretty hard and I haven't been able to push myself out of rhythm.
Give yourself time. The heart has been battered but it will come back. Most of us have difficult times after surgery so just stay up and optimistic. I know it will work for you.
